blauhaus
blauhaus is a modern business and shopping centre
in the heart of pärnu
location
the building is located at the crossroads of three streets
- on the lot between pikk, hommiku and malmö
streets
up to now this place was dominated by bleak walls
on which the pärnu house of engineers was once planned
to be erected
history
but this agreeable site has a rather longer history
in the middle ages it marked the place where the city came
to an end and pastures began on that spot there was a cattle
gate in the city wall and a public well next to
it
the location of both the well and the city wall can be seen
in the lobby of today's blauhaus
construction
this plot of land in the city centre can be associated with
blauhaus since 1999
when german businessman ernst anton friedrich habermeyer
bought the real estate
work began with sketches and blueprint - authored by architect
meelis nurm
construction work started in june 2000
chief building contractor fksm handed the building
over as scheduled in february 2001
air
air, more air, air costs nothing!
exclaimed papa piibeleht, a real estate tycoon from pisuhänd
it does, we now know, it costs the satisfaction of the visitor
thus the architectural goal
was to place on this 612 square metre lot a modern building
which would have no lack of light and air
and which would also represent a new approach in the
use of materials
interior view
interior design is dominated by naturalness and vigour -
metal, glass, concrete
seconded by light birch veneer on the walls and by wooden
banisters
exterior view
the modern solution for the exterior links to the historical
old town by making use of an ancient building material -
red brick
blauhaus is situated between pärnu's new evolving city centre
and the old town
and this is reflected in its exterior finish
it takes its name from the blue glass facade
blauhaus means blue house in german
hint
in this there is also a small hint to the bauhaus
art movement which was quite
well-established in germany during the first third of the
last century
and which manifested itself in the graphic arts as well as
in design and architecture
priorities
first and foremost, though, the building is designed for
its users
our objective was to create an optimally operating functional
and aesthetic environment
for the leaseholders of blauhaus, as well as a pleasant site
to visit both by pärnu's citizens and the city's visitors
having taken clothes to dry-cleaning, a visitor can take
care of necessary business in the bank and have a look
around the shops and pay a visit to
the beauty parlour
one can also spend time by unwinding and going in for
sports
everybody is welcome - there is an elevator and a disabled
toilet in the building
